a media celebrity, with a great ability to transmit
his passion and enthusiasm for football and, above all, for life.
As his friend John Carlin wrote, “Michael was loved by the friendliness he exuded, above all, but part of his success as a public figure in Spain was due to the contrast so characteristic of him, so trademark, between the English accent and the who spoke Spanish and his absolute command of Spanish slang. He always peppered our conversations – Carlin said – even if they were in English with words like cocoon, pringao, chorizo, tacky, or expressions like “I hate it,” “sell the motorcycle,” “asshole” and “don’t touch my balls”.
